Nashville SC Fires Coach Gary Smith

Departure of Longtime Head Coach

Nashville Soccer Club announced today the departure of Gary Smith as the club's first head coach. Smith has been with the club since its inception in 2016, leading the team through its USL and MLS seasons.

Reasons for Departure

The club did not provide specific reasons for Smith's departure. However, the team has struggled to start the 2024 MLS season, posting a league-worst 2-10-2 record. Smith's departure comes after a 5-1 loss to the New England Revolution on Wednesday night.

Reaction from Smith

Smith released a statement expressing his gratitude to the club and its fans. "I want to thank Nashville SC for the opportunity to coach this team for the past seven seasons," Smith said. "It has been an honor to be a part of this club from the very beginning, and I wish them all the best in the future."

Reaction from Club

Nashville SC General Manager Mike Jacobs also released a statement. "We want to thank Gary for his contributions to Nashville SC," Jacobs said. "He has been a great coach and leader, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

Next Steps

Nashville SC has not yet announced a replacement for Smith. The team will be back in action on Saturday, May 20, when they host the Philadelphia Union at Nissan Stadium.
